Beam Splitter, the Berlin-based duo of A (USA) and H (Norway), has developed a singular language for amplified voice, trombone, and analog electronics: intimate yet raw, exposed yet precise, pushing far beyond the corporeal limits of unprocessed sound into hyperextended physical play. For their first North Texas concert, they will be joined by percussionist Stefan González. Also on the bill, Denton-based cellist Kourtney Newton, whose work spans new music and improvisation, joins generative audiovisual artist Sean Miller for a first-time collaboration. Opening the evening, Dallas-based xmyri moves fluidly between glitch textures and hyperglitch intensity.
BEAM SPLITTER + STEFAN GONZÁLEZ Through numerous performances in a wide range of spaces, contexts and collaborations, they have developed a unique brand of highly amplified dialog. The duo have toured extensively across five continents since 2015 and have taken part in larger commissioned works at the Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires and largely conceptualized a theatrical adaptation of MEDEA in Kyiv, Ukraine. KOURTNEY NEWTON + SEAN MILLER As a proponent of contemporary classical music, Kourtney has been a featured soloist at the Southwestern Choral Conductor’s Conference in Denver and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Sounds Modern Recital Series. A member of the Amorsima Trio, which redefines traditional expectations through commissioning new works and seeking out collaborations with innovative composers.
Sean is an artist working with video, sculpture, installation, live media, performance and sound. His work is the result of a synthesis of media and focuses on themes of embodiment, synesthetic relationships and living geology. Miller and Lily Taylor comprise the live video/drone performance group Locations.
