Dallas artist-run gallery for technology and sound art accepted into the city's leading contemporary gallery organization

DALLAS, TX — New Media Contemporary (NMC), the artist-run gallery, studio, and listening space in Dallas's Exposition Park, announced today that it has been invited to join Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas (CADD), the city's foremost membership organization of contemporary galleries.

"Everything we do at NMC starts with the artists and the community around them," said James Talambas, Founder and Executive Director of NMC. "Joining CADD means more people get to see the work we're already doing."

Membership in CADD is by invitation only, extended after consultation with the full CADD membership, and is reserved for galleries that demonstrate a sustained commitment to contemporary art and the highest ethical standards within the Dallas art community. In its invitation letter, CADD cited NMC's "demonstration of integrity" and "history of contributions to the cultural life of the Dallas art community" as grounds for the invitation.

A Different Kind of Gallery

NMC opened in December 2023 as a gallery, studio, and research space built to give technology-based art, experimental sound, and interdisciplinary performance a dedicated home in Dallas–genres and practices that have historically had few venues in the city. NMC operates on a nontraditional and progressive approach to curation, surfacing the most forward-thinking work being made and helping to educate buyers on this still-emerging form of art.

NMC is also Dallas's first dedicated experimental listening room, from Dolby Atmos installations and projection-based work to live sound art performance, NMC is built around immersive listening. That foundation carries through the gallery's two ongoing series: “NEW MUS,” the living composer series focused on new classical and electronic AV composers; and “Summer of Sound,” a program dedicated to time-based, multichannel sound works from international artists.

Community and education are just as central to NMC's programming. NMC runs Open Code, a weekly night pairing creative coding with vinyl listening, along with regular creative technology workshops in the gallery's ongoing effort to build community and teach the tools behind the work it shows.

NMC's home in Exposition Park has become part of the neighborhood's own identity. "NMC's presence adds depth to the neighborhood's creative rhythm, and we're excited to see their work recognized in a way that reflects what they contribute to Dallas's cultural landscape," said Hannah Dickerson, August Real Estate.

Programming and Reach

Since opening, NMC has built programming that connects Dallas's experimental scene to a wider national and international one:

• In September 2025, NMC artists Eric Trich, Diana Rojas, Zak Loyd, Jiatong Yao, and James Talambas presented work at NOISE_Media Art Festival at Istanbul's Yapı Kredi bomontiada — a media art platform running alongside the Istanbul Biennial.

• Talambas received the ArtsActivate grant through the City of Dallas, supporting the gallery's public programming for his immersive audio visual work "Resonant Horizons," performed at NMC in February 2026.

• The gallery has presented international artists including Mac Pierce, Laura Hyunjhee Kim, David Stout, John Pomara, and Virginia L. Montgomery, with performances from Tatsuya Nakatani, MSHR, Sandy Ewen, Scott Tixier, and Leoncarlo Canlas.

• NMC has also partnered with Dallas galleries and institutions including 500X Gallery, Ro2 Art, Barry Whistler Gallery, Dallas Contemporary, and UT Dallas on collaborative programming.

• NMC's Emerging Artists series has offered a platform specifically for undergraduate, graduate, and recently graduated artists during Dallas Art Fair weekend — work typically absent from that conversation.

James Talambas is the founder and executive director of New Media Contemporary. A composer, artist, curator, and immersive sound sculptor, his practice centers on resonance, spatial acoustics, and site-specific sonic installation, shaped in part by his close work with Ellen Fullman and her Long String Instrument. He has performed and exhibited internationally and previously served several years in leadership roles on the Fort Worth Arts Commission and with 500X Gallery.
